Just last week, it was revealed that Xavi Hernandez had reversed his decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the season. Since then, they have secured an unconvincing victory over 10-man Valencia, and on Saturday, they were defeated 4-2 by Girona in disastrous fashion, a result that not only handed Real Madrid the La Liga title, but also sees them drop to third in the standings, behind their Catalan rivals.

Xavi told the media post-match (via MD) that he believes the reason for the defeat at Montilivi was due to a lack of maturity from his players, rather than anything more sinister.

“We give away the games, we give them away. It happened to us against Real Madrid, Girona, against PSG… I’d like to think it’s part of the immaturity of some footballers. I leave very disappointed because we have been so superior for an hour. We didn’t make it 3-1, and on top of that, you give them the three goals.”

Despite only announcing his decision to stay last week, the pressure is already re-building on Xavi. This time, he has confirmed that he will be staying at Barcelona for next season.

“There will be no debate about my continuity.”
