St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas recorded 26 outs against the Pittsburgh Pirates without allowing a hit, but couldn't get the 27th to record the second no-hitter of the 2022 MLB season.
Pirates outfielder Cal Mitchell came in as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning trailing 9-1 and managed to hit a ball just over the head of Cardinals center fielder Harrison Bader. After the ball dropped, it went over the center field wall for a ground rule double.

Mikolas exited the game after Mitchell's hit with a pitch count at 129. While Mikolas struck out six Pirates batters, four managed to get on base via two errors, one walk and one hit by pitch.
Pittsburgh scored a run in the fourth inning when center fielder Bryan Reynolds got on base due to a Cardinals error and advanced to second. Reynolds reached third on a groundout and then scored the Pirates' only run of the game after another groundout.
Mikolas, 33, earned All-Star honors in 2018 during his first season with the Cardinals. He finished sixth in Cy Young voting and ended the year with an 18-4 record and 2.83 ERA. Mikolas missed all of the 2020 season due to surgery on his arm and sat out the majority of the 2021 season due to a forearm injury.
