Angels Injury News: RHP Chase Silseth is Ready to Return to Mound After Scary Incident
USA TODAY Sports

Dealing with a slew of injuries on both sides of the ball, the Halos could get one of their most promising young arms back on the bump in short order.

Preparing his return from a frightening injury he suffered earlier in the year, Chase Silseth could emerge back in the Angels' rotation to end the season with just weeks left to play.

Halos manager Phil Nevin announced on MLB Network Radio on Friday that the rookie would be making a rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

During a start on the road in New York, Silseth was trying to cover a base during a rundown, when a throw from his catcher struck him in the head.

After staggering around and promptly reacting seconds later, Silseth collapsed to the ground and was later diagnosed with a concussion after departing the game with trainers by his side.

As promising as his first few starts were, it's simply been a common theme of what could go wrong this year at the Big A has in every way, shape or form.

Whether it be promising rookies falling on a freak accident, tearing bicep tendons when swinging the bat in the on deck circle, taking a pitch to the face and needing reconstructive surgery, the injury bug has bitten the Angels in every which way.

Who's to blame for the situation can have many answers between the medical staff of the Angels, the players themselves for not having the right attitude, or Arte Moreno as some of these issues are clearly up top with ownership.

Whatever the case may be, one small glimmer of hope with Silseth's return is at least an encouraging sign on an individual level.

For the team he's returning to, the less said the better, as service time manipulation, swirling rumors about the departure of some of his superstar teammates, and a multitude of other factors could make this winter in Anaheim even colder than it's ever been.
