Joseph Parker Defeated Deontay Wilder Via Unanimous Decision

Joseph Parker prevailed via unanimous decision over Deontay Wilder in their world heavyweight match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the third defeat of Wilder's professional career.

Parker(34-3, 23KOs) and Wilder(43-3-1, 42KOs) were former heavyweight champions; Parker had held the WBO title, while Wilder had been the undisputed WBC champion before losing it to Tyson Fury. Parker, 31, from New Zealand dominated the former WBC champion throughout, winning all three scorecards (118-111, 118-110, and 120-108).

In a terribly disappointing first appearance in 14 months, Wilder, 38, from Alabama who had gained the reputation of being one of the most frightening one-punch knockout artists of his generation, never seemed to live up to that lofty billing, and plans for a much anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua were now definitely shelved.

“I’m back,” said Parker in media reports.

“We trained very hard for this, we had momentum. I was really fit, stayed calm and relaxed. I focused for every minute of every round. People had plans, but this was God’s plan. Merry Christmas to us,” he added.

"Deontay's got a new coach and maybe he's applying the new things he's working on, but maybe inactivity played a part," he continued.

Parker made more accurate blows and, more importantly, avoided Wilder's lethal right hand by frequently using his jab. After losing to Joe Joyce in September 2022, he has already won four straight fights, all of which have taken place this year. He will undoubtedly now focus on even bigger fights in 2024.

“My timing was off a little bit. Joseph did a great job. No excuses tonight, a good fight and we move on to the next thing. Stay calm and throw a couple of jabs and set up the right hand. Timing was off, he did a good job of avoiding and ducking," said Wilder in media reports.

“I felt I had the upper hand. I’m a happy fighter. I’m a warrior, I’ll be back soon. And if not then, it’s been an enjoyment and a pleasure. I appreciate everybody for the love and support over the years," he added.

“I’ve calmed down. I’ve found a lot of happiness in my life. Win, lose or draw, I’ll wear my smile,” he continued.
